Salon Spy tries Indian Head Massage

I decided to try this treatment as I suffer from headaches, migraine, and neck and shoulder pain.  Never having had this treatment before, I wasn’t sure what to expect or how I would feel afterwards.

I was shown to the treatment room where I was asked to remove my shoes, undress from the waist up and was given a sarong to wear; I was then asked to sit in a chair facing the treatment couch.  The room was warm and dimly lit with relaxing music playing in the background.

The treatment began with gentle tilting of the head and stretching of the neck followed by the gentle application of hot towels.  The therapist then explained that I could either sit while the treatment took place or lean forward and rest on the couch, and that during the treatment I would be asked to rest my head backwards on a cushion.  I was also asked if I was happy to have oil used on my face and scalp.

The treatment began with downward pressure on my shoulders and quite firm massage of shoulders, back, neck and upper arms; I was asked if the pressure was OK, and it was perfect for me.  The shoulders were also ‘pummelled’ which was quite relaxing and tingly at the same time.  I was then asked to rest my head back on the cushion and my face and scalp were massaged.  The face massage was absolutely wonderful, and I found this help clear my sinuses – this was an unexpected bonus for me!

The treatment finished off with a hot towel being placed around my shoulders.  Sheer bliss!

As there is a lot of work on the scalp and face using oil (although you are given the option to have this without), and I would advise that you don’t wear makeup or expect your hair to be perfect afterwards!  But you will feel relaxed and invigorated, and I would have this treatment again.  If you suffer from headaches, back/neck/shoulder tension, or sinus problems I would thoroughly recommend this treatment.
