Lilac’s guide to a fresh-faced glow

I’m often asked about my personal skincare routine and the products I choose, so I thought I’d open my bathroom cabinet and share my current must-haves.

Let’s start with cleansing:

Cleansers are often overlooked but they are one of the most vital steps in a successful routine, leaving skin cleansed of makeup, toxins and impurities and perfectly prepped to absorb other skincare products.

This Max Cleanser was the first product I tried in the Image range. I immediately felt the benefits on my skin. Sulphate and acid free it optimises the skin’s pH, so if you suffer with dry, ageing or sensitised skin it’s an absolute joy, leaving it clean and calm.

It’s a gentle creamy texture, suitable for all skin types, and a small amount goes a long way – mine has lasted 6 months and I’ve still not finished it. Simply wet hands and apply to face and neck, massage gently for one minute and remove with warm water.

Image ACE Serum

Serums are essential to any good skincare routine as their active ingredients lift, brighten, and smooth.

I have been using Image’s ACE serum since August last year and I must admit it’s the best one I have ever used. I’ve tried lots in my time, so you can tell I’m seriously impressed.

A concentrated essence infused with vitamins A, C, E, and a power blend of plant antioxidants including green tea and echinacea extracts it helps reduce visible signs of ageing such as fine lines and dryness. Bearberry extract naturally helps to brighten my skin’s appearance, while 5 amino acids support healthy collagen and elastin.

I find it absorbs straight in and gives my skin a glow, even without makeup. I generally use it in the morning after cleansing as it has a lovely invigorating scent.

Elemis Pro Collagen Overnight Matrix

If I’m honest I wasn’t that sure about this wrinkle smoothing cream initially as it has an odd, slightly jelly-like texture. But I was so wrong. It’s the best night cream I have ever used.

Despite appearances, it’s not greasy and keeps my skin beautifully hydrated and replenished. It works throughout the night to help restore the natural balance to the skin, creating a protective matrix to help seal in hydration. My skin looks more youthful and feels firmer and smoother by the morning with visible bounce back.

If you’re a Sunday Times reader you may have seen India Knight eulogising over it, and I wholeheartedly agree:

‘It makes you wake up looking significantly better than you did when you went to bed, and it keeps on doing it.’

Elemis Peptide Overnight Radiance Peel

I have been using this at-home peel since Elemis first launched it and love everything about it.

This overnight gentle peel combines Lactic Acid with AHAs derived from Hibiscus Flower to support cell renewal and rehydrate the skin, banishing dullness and promoting a more even, radiant complexion. I think Lactic acid is one of the best as it tends not to irritate or dry out skin, and is suitable for all skin types, including sensitive skin.

It’s certainly gentle enough for regular use and apply it about three times a week at night. With a fresh, light fragrance it leaves my skin feeling soft and hydrated when I wash it off the following morning.

Okay, so this last one isn’t a facial product, and it might not seem very glamorous but this winter it’s been one of my essentials, so I wanted to share it with you…

Elemis Aching Muscle Super Soak

What better treat then a luxurious soak after a heavy session in the gym or a day outside in the icy cold?

Not only does this ease my aching muscles, its uplifting aroma of Birch, Juniper, Clove, Lavender, Thyme and Blue Chamomile leaves me feeling invigorated and energised.

I initially thought it seemed quite expensive for a bath soak, but a small capfull goes a long way and the bottle lasts for ages. For me it’s 100% worth it – happy soaking!
