Our detox from home tips

Refill your glass

Everyone should be drinking about two litres of water (or any fluid) per day. Drinking water flushes toxins from our bodies. Drinking water aids the process of losing weight. Water replaces other calorie-laden beverages in the diet, causing you to reduce your overall number of calories. Plus, it can make you feel fuller, so you may eat less at each meal. It’s a win win!

“Thousands have lived without love, not one without water.”
— W. H. Auden

Run a bath

Epsom salt is believed to help stabilise mood and relieve stress, anxiety and depression. It is also used to relax muscles and relieve pain all over the body from head to toe.

The perfect tub tip

Pour about 300 grams of Epsom salt into the water flow as it fills with warm water.

A 15 - 20 minute soak in the tub should be enough!

Cut back on alcohol and try herbal tea instead

Herbal tea is a popular go-to for individuals who want to improve their health naturally. Unlike coffee and other standard teas, most herbal teas are caffeine-free. They also feature nutrients, vitamins, minerals and antioxidants.

Herbal Teas to try

Green - rich in antioxidants

Rosehip - high in Vitamin C

Red bush - great alternative to black tea or coffee

Ginger - warming, cleansing, & beneficial to digestion

Detoxing cleanses out your system entirely… I’m lazy and I have a really big sweet tooth, so I have to do cleanses every once in a while because of the amount of sugar I take in.

Brush away the day!

Have you tried Dry brushing for a short-term energy boost? The ancient practice of brushing dry skin stimulates your lymphatic system and exfoliates your skin. It helps your body detox by stimulating your lymphatic system to remove cell waste and environmental toxins more efficiently.

Brush up

Remember to start from your feet, and brush upward toward the heart in long strokes.

Boost Circulation

A lymphatic drainage massage is a form of gentle massage that encourages the movement of lymph fluids around the body and boosts circulation. Lymphatic drainage movements can be done as part of any massage and can even be done at home.

Massages are not only to promote relaxation but can boost our entire immune system – detox massages in particular focus on the lymphatic system - a network of tissues and organs that help the body get rid of toxins and waste materials.

Therapist’s Top Tip

“Try to eat plenty of berries and veg - they can even be made into smoothies and juices to drink too. Make sure you drink plenty of water and green tea.” - Emma, Lerwick Salon

Sleep and cleanse

Sleeping less than the recommended amounts can lead to an increased risk of developing health related issues such as obesity, diabetes, high blood pressure, and mental disorders.
